Hurricane Fiona Relief Efforts

Hurricane Fiona Disaster Relief Appeal:

Credit unions across Atlantic Canada are inviting you to donate to relief efforts in aid of our friends and neighbours impacted by Hurricane Fiona. The Red Cross is working to coordinate emergency relief efforts and provide help in affected areas as quickly as possible. Your donation will be used for immediate and ongoing relief efforts, long-term recovery, resiliency, and risk reduction activities.

There are several donation options available to credit union members as outlined below:

1. The NLCU Charitable Foundation is accepting funds to donate to the Canadian Red Cross Newfoundland and Labrador until October 21, 2022. Visit nlcucfc.com and click DONATE NOW. Be sure to select "Hurricane Fiona Relief Fund" in the dropdown menu provided.

2. The Town of Channel-Port aux Basques has set up an account with Atlantic Edge Credit Union for email money transfers at this address: fionadisasterrelief@aecu.ca

3. Donations at Community Credit Union may be made in person, by phone, or e-transfer at email@ccunl.ca.

o For e-transfers, please note Hurricane Fiona in the memo field.
o Members making donations via e-transfer should also indicate if their donation should be sent through the Canadian Red Cross or the Town of Channel-Port aux Basques.

4. Donations are currently being accepted at all credit unions in the province.

Important Notes:

• The NLCU Charitable Foundation will match donations to its Hurricane Fiona Relief Fund to a maximum of $5,000.
• The Government of Canada will match donations made to the Canadian Red Cross up to October 23, 2022.
• Receipts for donations to the Canadian Red Cross will be provided for donations of $20 or more.
• The Town of Channel-Port aux Basques cannot provide a tax receipt for donations directly to them.
• All money received by the Town of Channel-Port aux Basques will be recorded and funds will go to all those affected by Fiona in their region. Distribution of funds will be overseen by a committee of representatives from all Towns affected in their region.
